CHISO BUILDING
Chiso, a renowned kimono brand with a long and distinguished history in Japan since the year 1555, opens its first flagship store in Karasuma-Sanjo, Kyoto on 23 August 2020. The valued wisdom and knowledge established over centuries by the Japanese artisans of Chiso has spread widely in Japan and has become a significant technique for dyeing and weaving kimono today.
Dorell Ghotmeh Tane Architects (DGT) designed the Chiso Flagship store to reveal to the world the company’s rich history of producing high quality kimono. The store spreads over 2 storeys; the first floor welcomes visitor in a bright double height room and hosts a kimono showroom facing to a garden. The theatrical display of the beautiful kimono, floating in the garden light highlights the beauty of the kimono and creates a timeless environment for the visitors. The second floor is organised as a gallery space where Chiso’s philosophy and culture are exhibited. The Chiso Flagship store transforms traditional inspirations into contemporary expressions in order to welcome all visitors to a serene experience in the world of Chiso.
